I'm not yet sure what the best way to stop the spam is, so what I've done is to require every new member to be enabled by me, and I'll start deleting the spam members.
I'm sorry I haven't been much around lately, I've been busy elsewhere and I thought it was ok to take a break since things were running smoothly. As I write this I'm still not sure how much time I'll be spending on the site in the near future. Also, my e-mail is down, so if you want to contact me, please do so with PMs on this site.

I used to have major problems with spammers at my forum. The solution was a "Humanizer" mod. On the registration page, it adds a question with an obvious answer that has to be typed in English. This mod has been very effective for me. I use an older version of PHPBB though so I don't know if this mod is available for the version you use here, but it may be worth a try.
